Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan to initiate study on 2008 stock market crash – Alfalah Securities Limited

Karachi, November 05, 2012 (PPI-OT): The Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) has decided to initiate an independent study into the reasons and causes of Karachi Stock Exchange crash in 2008.

According to Alfalah Securities Limited, the decision has been made to devise strategies and plug loopholes that led to the market crash. The study will also evaluate the rational behind placing a floor on the share prices of listed securities, which was imposed on August 27, 2008 and continued till December 15, 2008. The findings may lead to avoid any such crises to re‐happen in future and improve transparency in the capital markets.
