Islamabad, November 08, 2012 (PPI-OT): The accurate identification of beneficiaries is vital and provides the basis for the success of any programme in Social Protection sector. Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) has achieved this important objective remarkably and thus able to bring positive change in the lives of millions of beneficiary families.
These were the views expressed by a delegation of the World Bank during a meeting with Federal Minister and Chairperson BISP, Madame Farzana Raja here at BISP Secretariat Wednesday. The delegation comprised Jesco Hentschel, Sector Director World Bank, Pablo Gottert, Sector Manager and Mr. IftikHar Malik, Senior Social Protection Specialist the World Bank.
The members of the delegation while appreciating the performance of BISP termed it a right step in the social sector. The delegation expressed appreciation for the fact that the Programme is able to improve the lives of beneficiary families through its various schemes which are introduced as ‘One Shop Stop Idea’.
The delegation said that the data collected by the BISP could be beneficial for other initiatives in the social sector launched by various organizations as well as provinces and BISP could play its role as a supportive programme for such endeavours.
Earlier, Madame Farzana Raja while appraising the delegation about various interventions of BISP in social sector said that the programme provides a comprehensive package of social protection through ‘one window operations’.
She said that one of the important aspects of the programme is its limited administrative expenses. Besides, she said with the assistance from the provinces and organizations like NADRA, PPAF and State Life Corporation etc, the Programme proved to be a success.
Madame Farzana Raja said that 22,000 youth are being imparted vocational/technical training under Waseela-e-Rozgar scheme of BISP while 5,000 youth have already completed their courses. She said that BISP has been approved by the both houses of the parliament and has been endorsed by all political parties in the parliament. Thus, she said, it is a programme of entire country and we all ought to work for making it a success.
Chairperson BISP added further that the World Bank and other organizations have played pivotal role in the success of BISP. She said that transparency and effectiveness are the hallmark of BISP and it is by this virtue that it has gained support from the World Bank and other international organizations.
Madame Farzana Raja informed the delegation that Waseela-e-Taleem initiative of BISP is being launched on November 9 2012 aiming to provide education to the children of beneficiary families. She expressed her hope that the scheme would prove to be a revolutionary step with regard to promotion of education in the country.
