Islamabad, March 21, 2013 (PPI-OT): Pakistan Ambassador to Germany Abdul Basit has said that as long as human beings have the ability to transcend their national prejudices in times of natural disasters, there is a hope for the humanity as a whole to achieve ever more peace and prosperity, says a press release received here today from Berlin.
He was addressing the participants of a fund raising event organized by the Humanity Care Foundation today in Muenster. The Foundation extended invaluable humanitarian assistance to Pakistan in the wake of the 2005 earthquake and 2010 floods.
It is running many social sector projects/programmes in areas badly affected in the floods of 2010-11. The event was also attended by the Lord Mayer of Munster, Mr. Marcus Lewe.
The Ambassador in his address thanked the German people for their generous contributions, which, he said, was reflective of excellent Pakistan German relations. Germany is Pakistan’s largest trading partner in Europe, and one of the major sources of investment in Pakistan.
The Ambassador said that with the commencement of Strategic Dialogue last year, relations between Pakistan and Germany were moving from strength to strength’ adding that over 75 thousand Pakistanis in Germany had been playing an important role in strengthening the bilateral relationship.
The President of the Foundation, Mr. Folker Flosse briefed about his Foundation’s philanthropic activities in Pakistan underlining the resilience the people of Pakistan. The event was attended by over 1000 people.
Earlier in the day, the Ambassador met Lord Mayer of Muenster city and signed the Golden Book placed in the historical Hall of Peace where the famous Westphalia Peace Treaty was signed in 1648.
In his remarks, the Ambassador wrote, “I wish the message of peace originated in Muenster with the Westphalian Peace Treaty in 1648 spreads out to the entire world, for all countries and for all people.”
As per the tradition, the Ambassador was offered by the Mayor to drink water from the Golden Rooster as a mark of mutual friendship and trust.
