Islamabad, September 17, 2013 (PPI-OT): The conference of Inter Governmental Council (IGC) of CASA-1000 ended successfully in Islamabad after two days of deliberation and decision making. The IGC constituted a numbers of Committee including Financial closing, procurement committee for engineering, procurement, construction, bidding and award of contract and legal sub-committee for negotiation of court project agreement.
The international financial institutions showed their strong support and commitment to finance the project. It was also agreed that the project will be put on fast track so that people of the region can get the benefit of affordable electricity and have the opportunity to participate to participate in the project through community benefit sharing programme.
On this occasion, Mr. abid Sher Ali, the Minister of State for Water and Power while addressing the gathering thanked all the participant including Excellencies Muhammad Ismail Khan, Minister for energy and Water of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, Osmonbek Artykbaev, Minister of Energy and Indutry of the Kyrgyz republic and Mr.Pulond Mukhiddinov,Deputy Minister ffor Energy and Industry of the Republic of Tajkistan.
Answering the question on security issues, Minister said that the security plan for each individual country will be prepared by each representative country government and would be deliberated in the Joint Working Group.
Highlighting the importance of project Ch. Abid Sher Ali said that the CASA-1000 Project is an important step-in building a functioning, efficient electricity system across Central Asia and South Asia.
He further said “by building new transmission facilities, the CASA-1000 project would give a much needed boost to Pakistan’s electricity situation. He also said ,his government is taking diverse measures to solve the problem of capacity shortage.
These include expansion and refurbishment of existing plants, induction of new power plants, energy Parking mainly in the public and private sector, encouragement of renewable energy, and import policy.
