Karachi, June 15, 2015 (PPI-OT): A High Level trade delegation from Germany headed by Mr. Stephan Steinlein, State Secretary, Federal Foreign Office, Berlin and accompany by Dr. Cyrill Nunn, German Ambassador to Pakistan, Dr. Tilo Klinner, Consul General of Germany in Karachi, Mr. Jose Schulz, Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan, Federal Foreign Office, Mr. Carl Berger, Ambassador, Director for Foreign Trade and Technology, Federal Foreign Office, Mr. Andre Scholz, Deputy Head of Division, External Economic Promotion, Federal Foreign Office and 15 prominent German Businessmen met Ms. Rabiya Javeri Agha, Secretary, TDAP along-with the Senior officers of TDAP.
Ms. Rabiya Javeri Agha, Secretary TDAP, welcomed the honourable guests and shed the light on Pakistan – Germany trade potential. The honourable guests were also briefed about the mandate and working of Trade Development Authority of Pakistan. She highlighted that the bilateral trade between Pakistan and Germany is stable and the volume of trade between the two countries was around US$ 1.2 billion in last fiscal year.
The major exportable items were Textile, Surgical Equipment, Pharmaceutical, Sports Goods, Gloves and Leather. TDAP has been regularly participating with top Pakistani exporter of the said sectors in 14 international exhibition held in Germany. Now, TDAP is especially focusing to promote Pakistani fruits product like mangos and kinnows for European market including Germany.
Mr. Stephan Steinlein, State Secretary, Federal Foreign Office, Berlin appreciated the TDAP efforts for enhancing the bilateral trade and stated that it is encouraging that both the countries are committed to further improve trade relations which is most promising and we hope that in future trade would grow substantially. He further said that business environment in Pakistan has been improving which is the positive sign for German investor as well.
Ms. Rabiya Javeri Agha, Secretary TDAP informed that 20 members German delegation participated in Expo Pakistan last year. She invited Germany companies to establish German Pavilion in next Expo Pakistan, which will provide an opportunity to business community of both countries to interact with each other to promote trade and investment and joint investment projects.
Dr. Tilo Klinner, Consul General of Germany in Karachi shown interest and stated that the proposal will be discussed with German companies for establishing German Pavilion in Expo Pakistan. It was agreed to enhance trade activities between both the countries and support participation in international exhibitions and exchange delegations.
