Lahore, April 10, 2015 (PPI-OT): The recent boom in Pakistan’s ecommerce industry has effectively introduced the concept of entrepreneurship in the country. As a result we have seen an increase in the number of female entrepreneurs in Pakistan. Now, Kaymu.pk, an online shopping community, is making an effort to further increase participation of women in Pakistan’s ecommerce fold, as well as in the country’s workforce as a whole.
Kaymu recently held an informative session, at their Karachi office, for budding female entrepreneurs to discuss the benefits of utilizing ecommerce platforms to increase their business outreach. Successful business women, who have been able to expand their business using Kaymu.pk, were also present at the event to share their experience with the attendees.
As part of their women empowerment initiative Kaymu also launched the #womentoday campaign on Twitter, where people are asked to express their thoughts on how women today are positively shaping the workforce in every industry of Pakistan’s economy. If you want to share success stories of working women in Pakistan you can log on to Twitter and share your thoughts using #womentoday.
There is no doubt that we need to increase the participation of women in Pakistan’s economy. Various United Nations (UN) reports suggest that only 3% of Pakistani women are part of the financial system, a figure that needs to rise drastically.
The growing ecommerce industry in Pakistan provides a great opportunity to include women in the country’s workforce. Unofficial figures state that Pakistan’s the annual ecommerce revenue stands at around $30million; industry experts are predicting that this figure has the potential to touch $600million by 2017. If we are looking to achieve this figure we need to encourage budding female entrepreneurs to enter Pakistan’s ecommerce landscape.
