Islamabad, March 07, 2013 (PPI-OT): The European Union will assist Ministry of Commerce in policy research on the initiatives contained in the recently announced 3-year Strategic Trade Policy Framework (STPF) 2012-15. A meeting of the Public Private Dialogue Steering Committee (PPDSC) established by the Ministry of Commerce to hold public private dialogues on specific trade policy issues and commission policy research studies was held in the Committee room of Ministry of Commerce on 07 March 2013.
The meeting, co-chaired by Additional Secretary Ministry of Commerce and Director General Pakistan Institute of Trade and Development, was attended by stakeholders in public and private sector.
Recently, the Ministry of Commerce has announced Strategic Trade Policy Framework 2012-15 in which the policy principles and initiatives for increasing Pakistan’s exports and domestic commerce have been announced. The European Union has agreed to assist the Government of Pakistan in conducting policy research to complement the government initiatives. International Trade Centre is the executing agency of these EU interventions.
During the meeting of the PPDSC held here on Thursday, reviewed the policy research studies on Enhancing export potential in Livestock and Dairy sectors, Enhancing exports to European Union and Enhancing Competitiveness and Export Potential for trade with India conducted during 2012.
In their remarks the participants hailed the process of Public Private Dialogues (PPDs) and stressed the need for a greater participation of all the stakeholders in the process.
For 2013, the Committee recommended that the research studies may be conducted on Technology Foresight, Domestic Commerce and Regional Integration (review of FTAs/PTAs signed by Pakistan).
