Karachi, December 17, 2015 (PPI-OT): In order to increase bilateral trade with Poland, a meeting was held with Polish Ambassador H.E. Piotr Opalinski. Mr. S. M. Muneer, CE TDAP, welcomed the honourable ambassador and other embassy guests and highlighted role of TDAP in the trade of Pakistan and informed the guests regarding rich mineral and metal potential of Pakistan.
HE Piotr Opalinski showed keen interest for expansion of trade relations between both countries and informed that Pakistani exporter can use Poland as trading hub for rest of the Schengen countries. The Poland offers very conducive environment for business as well as visa friendly environment for business community.
It was highlighted that the export of rice to Poland has decreased due to issue of genetically modified crops in Pakistan (GMC). Mr. S.M Muneer informed them that Pakistan annually export of Rice is approx US$ 2.5b to the world, and the importers are also European countries but no such requirements heard from any such country. He assured them this issue would taken-up with REAP and suggested Polish side to recommend any alternative to ensure hassle free exports of Rice to Poland.
Mr. Mirza Ikhtiar Baig, also pointed out that our trade statistics did not reflect the actual trade between booth counties. The data indicates its around US$225m however, Polish data shows it’s about US$400m. Mr. S.M Muneer assured them for necessary rectification by the concerned authority to reflect the true trade statistics between both countries.
Mr. S.M Munir, extended an invitation to Polish side to attend the upcoming TEXPO 2016 scheduled to be held from April 7 to 10, 2016. Ambassador, welcomed this offer and confirmed that they would encourage their leading business houses to attend this mega event. Polish side also showed interest to attend the upcoming IDEAS exhibition. The Polish side suggests a high power business delegation of Pakistan should be formed to visit Poland to enhance trade, which the Chief Executive, TDAP agreed.
It was agreed to enhance trade activities between both the countries and support participation in international exhibitions and exchange of delegations. The Chief Executive, TDAP assured the Polish Managing Director M/s. PGNiG of resolution of issues related to their security while working on gas exploration in Dadu Distt. of Sindh province.
