Lahore, March 21, 2013 (PPI-OT): The Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA) held a consultative conference on development of construction sector. The conference held in chair with Sardar Ahmad Nawaz Sukhera, CEO SMEDA was attended by Engineer Muhammad Akbar, Constructors Association of Pakistan along with a number of the prominent stakeholders of the construction industry including Engr. Arshad Dad, Mr. Pervaiz Mirza, Mr. Muhammad Arshad Chaudhry, Mr. Kaleem Siddiqui and Mr. Abrar Ahmad.
The conference deliberated upon needs of construction sector for development in the full pace. The industry stakeholders identifying the major issues to be in the sector proposed to develop a credible and speedy mechanism of access to finance along with a conducive policy frame work.
They were unanimously of the view that the Construction industry being a labor intensive sector can be a great source of generating employments both for skilled and unskilled manpower in the country. The expressed gratitude to SMEDA for selecting this sector as priority area of the fresh five year business plan of SMEDA to be worked currently in SMEDA.
SMEDA CEO gave a presentation on the running SMEDA services and projects followed by an overview on the construction sector. He assured to continue the consultative process with private sector’s stakeholders till finalization of the comprehensive plan.
