Lahore, December 22, 2014 (PPI-OT): Realizing the growth potential of youth entrepreneurship in the country, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA) has focused this potential and is taking a number of initiatives for developing and promoting entrepreneurship particularly among the educated youth for raising awareness and building capacity of the graduating students for motivating them and inculcating the entrepreneurial spirit.
SMEDA in collaboration with University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore organized an awareness seminar on ‘Entrepreneurship as Career Option’ at UET Lahore premises Dr. Parvaiz Mughal, Professor Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering, UET Lahore in his opening address, highlighted the objectives of the seminar and underlined the importance of youth towards education and development of their skills in pursuance of entrepreneurship as career option and setting up their own small businesses.
He said that the country was faced with the challenges like unemployment and if youth entrepreneurship gets promoted then it can help to relieve the pressure on job market. He appreciated the role of SMEDA for holding such awareness seminars for the guidance of university students.
Mr. Javed Afzal, Manager Outreach, SMEDA while speaking to the audience said that SMEDA, had a wide network of regional offices in the major cities of Pakistan, involved in providing business counseling and other business development services to the young people aspiring for setting up their new small businesses.
He also briefed the students about the various development projects of SMEDA that have been established by the funding by the Government of Pakistan for the development and promotion of the related business sectors in the country. He emphasized upon the participants to pursue entrepreneurship as career option and also avail the business development services from various initiatives of SMEDA and other relevant business support organizations in the country.
Capt. Muhammad Akram, CEO Hawks Engineering presented his success story of journey towards entrepreneurship. He said that educated youth can play a vital role in business development and that can be helpful in development of economy of the Country.
He said that engineering graduates having specialization in various disciplines would be helpful for the industrial sectors if they initiate their own business. He said that youth needs proper guidance to play part in establishing their own businesses with expertise. He offered that the industry was ready to provide the internship opportunities to the engineering graduates for their practical exposure towards work environment.
Speaking on the occasion Mr. Abid Iqbal, CEO PECS Industries also shared his entrepreneurial experience and progressive growth with the audience. He said that our country apart from its natural resources is also rich in the human resources. He encouraged the students for the entrepreneurship with commitment, dedication and hard work. The seminar was concluded after a question and answer session with the presenters.
