Karachi, June 15, 2015 (PPI-OT): The Acting Chairman Pakistan Tanners Association (S.Z) Amir Majeed has expressed dismay over decision of two days gas load -shedding in Karachi. Through a statement, he was extremely critical that the decision will have adverse impact on the export-earning leather industry. Its production activity will be curtailed and shipment of ordered consignments will be delayed. The local exporters may have to face penalty for late shipments, he warned.
“Many factors including increased cost of utilities have already haunting the export-oriented manufacturers while government has made another anti-industry decision will prove to be the last nail in the coffin of the industry”, he warned. He further warned that the workers would be rendered jobless if the factories started shut-down. Tanneries may have to lay them off due to curtailed production, in particular when the Holy Month of Ramazan and Eid is not very far off.
He expressed surprise over the decision when the lean period of winter has passed. He demanded that the Industry in Sindh should be given the right of first usage of gas under 18th Amendment when the provinces produces 70% of gas and the local Industry uses only 40% of produced gas. He demanded of the govt. to review its decision and save the industry which is so pivotal for revival of the economy.
