Karachi, June 05, 2015 (PPI-OT): H.E. Mr. Ulises Canchola Gutierrez, Ambassador of Mexico based in Tehran and concurrently accredited to Pakistan along with Mr. Jaun Antonio Cepeda Gutierrez, Regional Representative of PROMEXICO in Asia and the Middle East and Mr. Sultan Ali Lakhani, Honorary Consul General of Mexico and CEO Express News called on Ms. Rabiya Javeri Agha, Secretary TDAP, on 4th June 2015 at TDAP headquarter.
Ms. Rabiya Javeri Agha, Secretary TDAP, welcome the honourable guests and shed the light on Pakistan – Mexico trade potential. The honourable guests were also briefed about the mandate and working of Trade Development Authority of Pakistan.
The Mexican Ambassador communicated that their country is liberalizing trade and Mexico has signed about 12 Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) / Preferential Trade Agreements (PTAs) with around 144 countries. He also disclosed that Pakistan is being considered a potential trade partner and Mexican government is in process of opening of Mexican Embassy in Pakistan. It was highlighted in the meeting that Mexican government is emphasizing on three sectors i.e. Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), Exports and Investment Abroad.
Ms. Rabiya Javeri Agha, Secretary TDAP, told the honourable guests that Mexico is on the top agenda of government as far as trade is concerned and raised problems faced in exports of Pakistani rice to Mexican market. The Mexican Ambassador assured Secretary TDAP that the matter will be taken up to concerned authorities for early resolution. Secretary TDAP also communicated that Pakistan is participating in the fair of Mexico next year and this kind of activities are required from both the sides to enhance the trade between both the countries.
It was agreed to enhance trade activities between both the countries and support participation in international exhibitions and exchange delegations. It was also agreed to sign Memorandum of Cooperation (MOC) between TDAP and PROMEXICO (counterpart of TDAP in Mexico) to channelize the trade activities between both the organizations. The meeting concluded on positive note and souvenirs were given to honourable guests by Secretary TDAP.
